Frequently Asked Questions
How Painful is Electrolysis?
There is typically no pain associated with inserting the probe into the natural opening of the hair follicle, as the probe is the same diameter or less than the hair.

The centerline of the face & body tends to be more sensitive, as nerves overlap in these areas.

The Galvanic Current, as well as the Blend, both may feel like a stinging, nagging pain.

The High Frequency feels like warm pulses of current. I will work with your individualized pain threshold to make sure we do the most efficient work, with the least amount of pain. Caffeine, moon cycle, stress levels, dehydration, lack of sleep, or other factors may heighten pain levels.
Can I Shave, Pluck or Wax Between Sessions?
This is a very important topic, as plucking & waxing are very contraindicative to your permanent hair removal journey.

Each hair on your body goes through a specific cycle, involving 3 phases called Anagen, Catagen & Telagen as seen in the diagram on this page.

When you pluck or wax your hairs, blood rushes to the area & nourishes the hair germ cells to grow more vigorously & stronger than before, as well as deeper, darker & more course.

Plucking & waxing also disturbs the natural cycle of the hair, so it grows back directly into anagen stage, skipping the shedding & resting phase. It takes many weeks for that hair to reappear, which may disrupt your electrolysis cycle, resulting in less than ideal results, or extended treatment time overall.
Shaving however, is totally okay! We highly recommend investing in a discreet battery shaver, such as the Flawless Hair Remover.

You are welcome to shave a few days prior to your sessions, in fact it can be quite helpful in areas where hairs are a few inches long, but please make sure you leave enough length of hair to be grasped by the tweezers.

Why Do We Grow Unwanted Hair?
There are a number of reasons that both men & women grow abnormal, or undesirable hair around the face & body.

Hormonal imbalances, PCOS, endocrine disorders, stress, smoking, hereditary reasons, injury, scars, friction, medications, to name a few! In our first consultation, we will go over a thorough health history to try to pinpoint any underlying reasons you may be suffering from unwanted or overabundant hair growth (hirsutism).
If found necessary upon consult, I will refer you to check in with your physician towards any issues that may seem of concern to your overall health.
How Long to See Permanent Results?

Alhough you will see results as sessions go along, on average, electrolysis can take about a year & a half to two years of consistent treatment per area.

This may be more or less depending on the severity of your case, so please carefully consider the commitment of your appointments as well as the financial investment you are making in yourself.
